Stadium 974, located in Ras Abu Aboud, Doha, Qatar, is a football stadium with a capacity of 44,089. It was previously known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. The stadium was officially opened on November 30, 2021 and was built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosting seven matches during the tournament.
The stadium’s unique design incorporates 974 repurposed shipping containers and modular steel elements, reflecting Qatar’s long-standing tradition of worldwide trade and seafaring. The number 974 is also Qatar’s international dialing code. Notably, it was the first fully demountable stadium in FIFA World Cup history. The stadium’s design allowed for natural ventilation and reduced the need for air conditioning, according to FIFA. The Stadium 974 building is considered a symbol of sustainability and creativity.
The Stadium 974 hosted matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Following the World Cup, the stadium’s components were planned to be repurposed or used to build other stadiums in different locations, although as of February 2025, it remains in its original site. The stadium has been used for other events, including matches for the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2024 Trophée des Champions. It is also planned to host matches in the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.
